Board of Education

The Board of Education meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at the District Office located at 25102 E. 24 Highway Independence, MO 64056 (next to Fire Prairie Upper Elementary).  

Board Meeting Dates 2025/2026 School Year:

July 8, 2025

*July 24, 2025 - A Special Work Session will be held beginning at 8:00 a.m. 

August 12, 2025 

*September 16, 2025 - Please note the change in date of the September regular Board Meeting.

*September 29, 2025 - Annual Tax Rate Hearing will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m.

October 14, 2025 

*October 16, 2025 - A Special Work Session for the purpose of board training will be held beginning at 3:00 p.m. 

*October 23-25 - MSBA Annual Conference 

*October 28, 2025 - A Special Executive Session will be held for the purpose of student matters (§160.021- 6,14 RSMo) beginning at 4:00 p.m.

November 11, 2025 

*November 13, 2025 - A District Tour for the Board of Education beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the District Office. 

*December 3, 2025 - A Special Work Session for possible bond issue/levy transfer discussion beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the District Office. 

December 9, 2025

*December 16, 2025 - A Special Executive Session will be held for the purpose of personnel matters (§160.021- 3,13 RSMo) beginning at 3:00 p.m.

*January 6, 2026 - A Special Executive Session will be held for the purpose of legal matters (§160.021- 1 RSMo) and personnel matters (§160.021- 3,13 RSMo) via Google meet.

January 13, 2026 

*January 19, 2026 - A Special Work Session to engage with MSBA to assist in the Superintendent Search beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the District Office.

*January 26, 2026 - A Special Work Session will be held for the purpose of discussion and/or approval of a Bond Issue/Levy Transfer to be placed on the April 7, 2026, ballot beginning at 4:00 p.m.

February 10, 2026

*February 20, 2026 - A Special Work Session will be held beginning at 2:30 p.m. for the purpose of reviewing MSBA survey data and focus group findings related to the Superintendent search process (information only).  A Closed Executive Session will be held beginning at 3:00 p.m. for the purpose of personnel matters (§160.021- 3,13 RSMo)

*February 25, 2026 - A Closed Executive Session will be held for the purpose of personnel matters (§160.021- 3,13 RSMo) beginning at 3:00 p.m.

*March 4, 2026 - A Closed Executive Session will be held for the purpose of personnel matters (§160.021- 3,13 RSMo) beginning at 12:00 p.m.

Executive meetings are not open to the public. 

 

If you would like to speak at a board meeting, you must fill out a ‘Request for Public Participation’ card 20 minutes before the meeting begins.  Only comments reasonably related to the posted agenda will be permitted. Cards are available at the meeting location.  If you have documents you would like to provide board members, please give them to the Board Secretary before the meeting begins in order for them to be distributed to Board members. 

• Anyone wishing to speak to the Board of Education must fill out a card listing name, mailing address, telephone number and topic to be addressed.
• Each speaker will be allowed three (3 minutes) with a maximum of three (3) speakers per topic.
• A total of 20 minutes will be allotted for Public Participation during each board meeting.
• When called to speak, each speaker will identify themselves by stating their name.
• Only comments reasonably related to the posted agenda will be permitted.
• Speakers may provide written text of their prepared comments to board members, if so desired.
• While all comments and prepared written statements will be taken under consideration, the Board of Education will not respond to speakers as individuals or as a group during the meeting.
• Speakers should expect the Board President to interrupt or terminate a presentation if the above rules are not followed or if the time limit has expired. 
• If the meeting agenda is full the Board President may reschedule an item for next regular meeting.  
• No individual will be permitted to speak more than once during this part of the meeting.  Each member of the public to speak will be given the same amount of time to address the Board.  

During the ‘Public Participation’ portion of the meeting, you will be called forward by the Board President. As a valued stakeholder, your comments will be given respectful attention.  Board members may ask questions to clarify your comments, but will generally refrain from further discussion as the monthly business meeting is not the venue for extensive discussion or debate.  The Board will take your comments under advisement.  In certain situations, a district employee may be directed to follow up with you in order to gather additional information or provide a resolution to the issue.   

If a member of the public wishes to have an item placed on the agenda of a regular Board meeting, he or she may make a written request to the Superintendent after going through the appropriate process for a complaint or concern pursuant to District rules.  See District Policy C-120-P regarding Complaints or Concerns.  Also see District Policy C-140-P for additional information regarding public comment to the Board of Education.

The Fort Osage School District seven director board will have three openings on the April 7, 2026, election ballot.  Residents of the district who wish to serve a three-year term on the Board of Education may file their candidacy at the District Office located at: 25102 E. US 24 Highway Independence, MO 64056 during the business hours outlined in this notice, Monday through Friday on the dates and times listed below:

•  Tuesday, December 9, 2025, to Thursday, December 18, 2025, 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.,  

•  Friday, December 19, 2025, 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and 

•  Tuesday, December 30, 2025, 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. 

Filing will not occur on:

• the observance of winter break (December 22 - January 2) unless specified above;

• days that the school district’s central offices are closed due to inclement weather.

Candidates may call (816) 650-7000 to inquire if offices are open. Candidates must be resident taxpayers of the District, must have resided in the District for one year immediately preceding the election, be in compliance with all Missouri Ethics Commission requirements, must be at least twenty-four years of age and meet all requirements outlined in policy G-250-B; Board Member Qualifications.  Those candidates who file on opening day (December 9, 2025) will participate in a random drawing and be listed on the ballot in ascending order according to the number drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on a later date.
