Next Superintendent of Schools Announced by the Board of Education

With nearly three decades in public education, Dr. Grant brings a wealth of experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, human resources, and school administration. She most recently served as Interim Superintendent for the Independence School District for the past year and Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Services for the past seven years, where she led academic programming, student services, and instructional support for more than 14,000 students. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing comprehensive school improvement efforts and ensuring high levels of success for all learners.

Dr. Grant began her career in education in 1997 as an elementary teacher, spending six years in the classroom before serving six years as an elementary principal. She also served as a Mentor Teacher through the University of Missouri–Columbia Fellowship Program, supporting and developing future leaders in education. In 2012, she transitioned into district-level leadership as Director of Human Resources, further broadening her impact on staff development and organizational excellence.

Her educational background reflects her deep commitment to lifelong learning. Dr. Grant earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Missouri Southern State University and Rockhurst University. She holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Webster University, an educational specialist degree in School Superintendency from William Woods University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri–Columbia.

Dr. Grant and her husband, Tye, have been married for 32 years. Tye is the President and CEO of the Police Foundation of Kansas City and a retired Kansas City, Missouri, police officer.

Their son, Dylan, and his wife, Cassidy, reside in Smithville, Missouri. Dylan works for Atha Brothers Ag as a Crop Specialist and Agronomy Salesman. Cassidy is a Human Resources Specialist with the USDA. Their daughter, Madyson, lives in Independence and works for Steadily Insurance Company.

Dr. Grant is deeply committed to providing the very best educational experience for every student. She looks forward to building strong relationships across the district and community, honoring the traditions that make Fort Osage special.

We’re excited to begin the process of welcoming our next Superintendent of Schools to the Fort Family. Plans are currently underway for a meet-and-greet reception where staff, families, and community members will have the opportunity to meet her and offer a warm Fort Osage welcome.

In the coming weeks, a transition plan will also be finalized to support a smooth start as she begins connecting with our schools, staff, and community. More details about the reception and transition activities will be shared soon.
