Lewis & Clark Academy’s (LCA) Long Term Suspension is for students who have been suspended from their home school through a FOSD discipline hearing with the district’s hearing officer. This program allows students to continue their educational career while suspended from their home school. All students attending the Long Term Suspension at LCA are expected to follow the guidelines listed below.
When LTS students arrive to school they are expected to report directly to the LTS classroom. They are not allowed to visit with other students in the commons area before school. Students will remain in the LTS classroom until the LTS teacher dismisses them at the end of the day.
Transportation
- Bus transportation is available to students attending LCA.
- Students may be transported by parents/family members.
Metal Checks - All Long Term Suspension students will be subject to daily metal checks. Any items in the student’s possession which violate FOSD policies will be confiscated. Parents will be notified. If items violate FOSD policies additional discipline may be assigned.
Attendance
- LCA’s school day starts at 8:30AM and students are dismissed at 2:00PM daily.
- Maintain 80% attendance each quarter. Arriving late, skipping class, or leaving early reduces my attendance time.
- Absences may be waived if doctors’ notes or other legal documentation associated with the absence is provided.
- A student’s attendance will be evaluated when determining placement at the end of their suspension.
Academic Expectations
- Each student will be assigned work from their home school teacher. Students are expected to complete all daily assignments.
- If a student does not complete his/her daily lesson requirement for two consecutive days, he or she will have the following discipline consequences.
- 1st Offense 1 day suspension
- 2nd Offense 3 days of suspension
- 3rd Offense 5 days of suspension
- 4th Offense 10 days of suspension with referral to discipline hearing
Behavior Expectations
- Students in the LTS program are expected to stay in their assigned area and must ask permission to leave the classroom for any reason.
- Students are expected to refrain from talking during class time.
- Students are expected to follow the directives of the LTS teacher at all times.
- Students are not allowed to use inappropriate or profane language, gestures or innuendos
- Students behavior incidents will be recorded and sent to the principal for consequences:
- 1st Offense 1 day suspension
- 2nd Offense 3 days of suspension
- 3rd Offense 5 days of suspension
- 4th Offense 10 days of suspension with referral to discipline hearing
Cell Phones
- Students are not allowed to be in possession of cell phones during the school day. We advise parents to not allow students to bring his/her cell phone.
- If a student brings a cell phone to school he/she must turn it into the LTS teacher during metal check. The phones will be locked until the end of the day.
- If a student refuses to surrender his/her cell phone he/she will have the following discipline consequences:
- 1st Offense 1 day suspension
- 2nd Offense 3 days of suspension
- 3rd Offense 5 days of suspension
- 4th Offense 10 days of suspension with referral to discipline hearing
