Principal's Message

Fort Osage High School is a grade 9 through 12 comprehensive school. We have approximately 1,500 students enrolled. The staff consists of approximately 90 certified teachers and 40 non-certified personnel. In 1999 we opened the new Freshman Center. The freshmen are transitioned into the high school experience by taking all their core classes together in the center. The students continue their curriculum in the high school for all other courses. There is an administrator and counselor assigned to the freshman class.
As we continue our journey in becoming a Professional Learning Community, in the fall of 2005 the high school will initiate two new programs "Positive Rewards Program" and "STAR" program for students. Positive Rewards will provide a card system of privileges for students who come to school on a daily basis, do what is expected of them.
"STAR" time (Students, Teachers and Resource) will offer the students time to work with teachers two days a week in a tutorial setting during the school day. This will also allow the upper classmen an opportunity for enrichment or assistance by having additional time with a respective curriculum/teacher. A Freshman Mentoring Program (FMP) will be implemented. An upper classman is assigned to work with freshmen throughout the school year as a peer counselor. The freshmen will have more in depth work with a teacher and a high school mentor to assist in the transition to high school. Freshmen will work on items such as career planning, high school graduation credits, A+ and assistance in academics. With the STAR program we will be able to offer an "Adult Advocate" to every student in the school thus providing them with a web of support throughout their high school experience. We will continue to have collaboration time every Thursday morning. Students will start school at 7:55 on Thursdays so that teachers will have time to work together in collaboration. The first collaboration day will be Thursday, August 26 th , 2005. We offer an array of groups and organizations for the students to be involved and there are 20+ athletic teams for the students. I am confident that there is an organization, club or sport that will fulfill the needs of every child. The fine arts department is recognized state wide as a program that others mirror. A late bus is provided to accommodate students that are involved in activities and tutoring. Each teacher offers before and after school tutorials for students that need additional help and/or enrichment.
We believe that Fort Osage High School is the best school in the state of Missouri. Our students can and will perform to exceptional levels with pride, enthusiasm and respect. We are fortunate to have a total community that supports the school and our efforts for the benefit of the students. I am very proud to be a part of the Fort Osage Team. Our students and staff are "Excellence in Action!"
