Principal's Message
Welcome to Fire Prairie Middle School where every student is valued. It is our goal to support, prepare, and facilitate the intellectual and emotional growth of 5th and 6th grade students. The staff at Fire Prairie is dedicated to meeting the needs of this special age group and works hard to create self-directed life long learners.
Fire Prairie students are assigned to learning communities (teams) and are challenged to think beyond the obvious as they develop critical thinking skills. In order to help students achieve success we have created a "web of support" with highly qualified and dedicated staff members. In addition, we provide instruction through a variety of methods that include cooperative learning structures, teaching to multiple intelligences, and integrating technology in subject areas.
Each grade is divided into four learning communities. Each team is comprised of four teachers that serve approximately 100 students. Within this structure, Fire Prairie staff educate and support over 700 students in a modern and inviting facility.
Learning opportunities abound outside of the classroom with the use of student-centered clubs at Fire Prairie. Clubs encompass chess, art, choir, band, drama, reading, and broadcasting to mention a few.
In the spring of 2001 the General Assembly of Missouri lawmakers approved legislation concerning the assessment and remediation of reading for students (grades 3 rd -6 th ). The new law, Senate Bill 319, provides specific requirements for testing and providing additional help to students who are reading substantially below grade-level. Fire Prairie provides reading tutoring for students who meet this criteria and strive to make the program engaging and successful.
It is our honor to work with the students and parents of the Fort Osage R-1 School District and I encourage you to investigate this website and teacher “Moodle” pages for more helpful information.
