Benefits


	Medical Insurance

Health insurance coverage is provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, and year runs January through December. The District offers employees four options:

1. Base Plan-Premium is 100% employer paid.
2. Buy Up Plan- Premium is subsidized by the employee beyond the district-paid Base Plan.
3. High Deductible Plan I-Premium is 100% employer paid with a Health Savings Account benefit paid by the employer.
4. High Deductible Plan II-Premium is 100% employer paid with a Health Savings Account benefit paid by the employer.

	Health Savings Accounts

By participating in one of the two available High Deductible Plans, an employee is eligible to enroll in a Health Savings Account (HSA). Dependant upon the chosen plan, the District will make a contribution to the employee's HSA each month. Employees may also make additional contributions to the HSA.


	Long Term Disability

A Long Term Disability Insurance policy, provided through Prudential Insurance Company, is a Fort Osage R-1 School District board-paid benefit for employees that work more than 20 hours per week. This policy provides an employee with an income of up to 60% of wages when an employee is off work for 90 days or more, due to eligible circumstances.

	Dental Insurance

Optional dental insurance (all premiums paid by employee payroll deduction) is available to staff who are contracted to work 20 or more hours per week. The dental insurance provider is Assurant:

Prepaid Dental/Heritage Series
Voluntary Dental PPO/Freedom Basic
Voluntary Dental PPO/Freedom Advance

A Protective Vision Plan providing reduced price exams and eyewear purchase options from selected providers is included in all dental programs.


	Life Insurance

Life insurance coverage is provided to board paid "Health Insurance Benefit" eligible employees for a total amount of $50,000 Life and $50,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment.

This coverage is provided between two companies. Kansas City Life provides $40,000 and USAble provides $10,000, for a total of $50,000 Life/AD&D for these employees.

For employees that are "Optional Insurance" eligible, a Board Paid benefit of $10,000 Life and $10,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment is provided through KC Life.

Also available for both groups of employees is an option to purchase additional Group Universal Life insurance through Metlife. Metlife also offers products for car, boat, and property

	Retirement

Membership in the Public School Retirement System of Missouri (PSRS) is required for all full-time contracted certificated staff and requires a 13.5% (pre-tax) deduction from monthly payroll.

Classified staff who work 20 or more hours per week participate in Public Education Employee Retirement System of Missouri (PEERS) at the rate of 6.5% (pretax) monthly deduction and also participate in the social security system.

If a new employee has never been a member of PSRS or PEERS or has previously withdrawn your funds, an application must be completed.


	Flexible Benefits Plan

If an employee pays any health or dental insurance premiums through payroll deduction, he/she may be eligible to tax-shelter those premiums by participating in the District's Flex-Benefit Plan. Under this plan he/she may also tax shelter certain predictable funds such as those expended for child care or additional medical, optical, or dental expenses not covered by insurance.


	Sick Leave

Professional certificated staff employees are entitled to 11 days of sick leave.

Any support staff employee whose assignment calls for 12 months of full-time employment will be entitled to 11 days of sick leave. Those whose assignments call for full-time employment only during the regular school term will be entitled to 9 days of sick leave.

	Personal Leave

A maximum of two days of personal leave will be available per school year. Unused personal leave days accumulate as sick leave days at the end of the school year.

	COBRA

Health and Dental insurance-eligible employees leaving the district's employ may be eligible to continue insurance benefits for a specified period of time through COBRA.
